Animator, Director, Writer
Barry JC Purves is an OSCAR and BAFTA nominated Animator and Director, passionate about the art of film-making.
As well as his film work, he directs and designs for theatre and writes about, teaches and promotes the art of animation.
His work is acclaimed internationally and has won many awards.
Barry’s theatrical, and often controversial films, have won over sixty major awards, including Grand Prix, Best Director, Best Film, and OSCAR and BAFTA nominations. Many festivals have held retrospectives of his work which spans over 40 years in animation.
Away from film Barry works in theatre, his other true passion.
He has directed and designed many productions for The Garrick, Altrincham, The Edinburgh Fringe and pantomime in Peterborough.
Barry teaches and gives master classes internationally, including courses at the National Film and Television School and the National Film school of Italy. He is a frequent festival jury member, judging and curating screenings.
